§ 11. Mr. Robert Howarthasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will amend the Post-War Credit Regulations to enable consular officials to verify facts about British nationals living in foreign countries claiming repayment of their credits.
§ Mr. Harold LeverNo, Sir. I do not think it would be practicable for consular officials to undertake this task.
§ Mr. HowarthWould my hon. Friend reconsider that Answer because, in view, I should have thought, of the relatively small number of people involved, it would be possible to ask our consular officials to check on this and so to help people who in some cases are in dire straits?
§ Mr. LeverYes, I am quite prepared to look at this again. Although I had tentatively come to the conclusion I have expressed to the House, I will certainly have another look at the matter.
