HC Deb 30 November 1967 vol 755 c619
11. Dr. David Kerr

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science when he expects to make an announcement about the establishment of a National Film School.

The Minister of State, Department of Education and Science (Miss Jennie Lee)

The important issues raised by the Lloyd Committee's Report are now being carefully studied.

Dr. Kerr

Will my right hon. Friend please bear in mind that there is a fund of good will on this side of the House for any development along these lines, as such a development would be of great assistance in releasing creative energies among our people, would be a considerable help to exports, and. above all, because the idea of a National Film School enjoys great support among the commercial film industry?

Miss Lee

I agree with what my hon. Friend is saying, and I think it is well worth noting that because of this very valuable report, commercial interests, art and educational interests, and trade unionists, agree that it would be very useful.

Mr. Channon

It may be impossible now to give extra funds for this project, but is the right hon. Lady aware that there is good will on both sides of the House for a project of this kind when funds can be made available?

Miss Lee

I am grateful to the hon. Gentleman, and I hope that all our future exchanges will be equally agreeable.
