HC Deb 27 November 1967 vol 755 cc1-2
Mr. Kirk

With your permission, Mr. Speaker, and that of the House, I wish to present a Petition from the Rural District Council of Dunmow, in the County of Essex, concerning the decision of Her Majesty's Government to create a third London airport at Stansted. The Petition sets out the intention of Her Majesty's Government and submits that the effect of it would have disastrous consequences on the agricultural and village life of the County, and that it is taken against the advice and findings of the Inspector appointed by Her Majesty's Government.

The Petition states: Wherefore your Petitioners prays that Her Majesty's Government may be called upon to examine afresh its policy for national airports and the suitability of Stansted and other alternative sites for the Third London airport and to refrain from granting planning permission for the development of the Airport at Stansted until this has been done and a final decision can be taken in the context of an overall national airport policy. The Petition concludes in the customary way, with the words: And your Petitioners, as in duty bound, will ever pray.

To lie upon the Table.
