HC Deb 21 November 1967 vol 754 c1135
Q3. Mr. G. Campbell

asked the Prime Minister whether ex-President Nkrumah has resigned or been replaced by the Commonwealth Prime Ministers' Conference as a member of the Commonwealth Mission on Vietnam.

The Prime Minister

I would refer the hon. Member to the Answers given to similar Questions by him on 13th and 20th June, 1966, by my right hon. Friend the then Foreign Secretary.—[Vol. 729, c. 1022; Vol. 730, c. 36.]

Mr. Campbell

As those Answers provided virtually no information and as the Prime Minister referred again to this Mission in this House last Thursday and has also recently referred to it on television, why does he not tell the House more about the state of readiness of the Mission?

The Prime Minister

The hon. Gentleman will be aware that ex-President Nkrumah was not appointed in a personal capacity. He was appointed by the Commonwealth Conference as Head of the Government of Ghana. Should there be a possibility of mounting this Mission, we could speedily get the consent of my Commonwealth colleagues to the appointment of four suitable representatives.
