HC Deb 21 November 1967 vol 754 c1124
26. Dr. Winstanley

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if, in view of the free availability of stationery in the House of Commons racks, he will arrange to end the charge made for stationery obtained from Her Majesty's Stationery Office.

Mr. Diamond

The hon. Member's suggestion has been made before, but I am arranging for it to be considered again in the appropriate quarters.

Dr. Winstanley

I am grateful to the right hon. Gentleman for what he has said, but does not he agree that it is high time that Members were readily and freely supplied with the tools with which to do their job? Further, will he say that he cannot support the ludicrous situation in which hon. Members are given a rebate on any stationery which they return to the office, whereas any enterprising hon. Member can take away a sackful any afternoon?

Mr. Diamond

I doubt that I should agree with the term "enterprising" as applied to that hon. Member.
