HC Deb 21 November 1967 vol 754 c1122
24. Dr. David Kerr

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what sums of money have been received as duty paid on cigars, cigarettes and pipe tobacco, respectively, for the three most recent 12-month periods; and what per capita consumption of each these represent.

Mr. Diamond

As the Answer contains a table of figures, I will, with permission, circulate it in the OFFICIAL REPORT.

Dr. Kerr

Will my right hon. Friend take it that I shall study those figures with interest, in the hope that someone, possibly his right hon. Friend the Minister of Health, is making representations to him about the need for a differential tax in the interests of the nation's health?

Mr. Diamond

My hon. Friend will appreciate that that is a budgetary matter.
