HC Deb 16 November 1967 vol 754 c603
Sir D. Walker Smith

I beg to present a Petition on behalf of the Urban District Council of Sawbridgeworth in the County of Hertford. The Petition recites the Government's intention to site the third London airport at Stansted, and refers to the various disastrous consequences which would flow therefrom in respect of educational services, living conditions, road improvement schemes in East Hertfordshire, and the attraction of industry to a predominantly residential area. The Petition concludes: Wherefore your Petitioners pray that Her Majesty's Government may be called upon to examine afresh its policy for national airports and the suitability of Stansted and other alternative sites for the third London airport, and to refrain from granting planning permission for the development of the airport at Stansted until this has been done and a final decision can be taken in the context of an overall national airports policy. And your Petitioners, as in duty bound, will ever pray.

To lie upon the Table.
