§ 38. Mr. Ian Lloydasked the Secretary of State for Defence what plans he has to release the Royal Air Force aerodrome at Thorney Island for use as a civilian aerodrome within the next two years.
§ Mr. Merlyn ReesNone, Sir.
§ Mr. LloydIs the hon. Gentleman aware that, if he is contemplating at any time re-locating Transport Command from Thorney Island, the use of the aerodrome for civil purposes would be widely welcomed?
§ Mr. ReesThe intention is that we shall use Thorney Island during the 1970s, probably well into the decade. I remind the hon. Gentleman that civil use is allowed there now. If there is any thought of using it on a regular basis, perhaps we can discuss it with the Board of Trade and the local authorities.
