HC Deb 08 November 1967 vol 753 c1027
38. Mr. Ian Lloyd

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what plans he has to release the Royal Air Force aerodrome at Thorney Island for use as a civilian aerodrome within the next two years.

Mr. Merlyn Rees

None, Sir.

Mr. Lloyd

Is the hon. Gentleman aware that, if he is contemplating at any time re-locating Transport Command from Thorney Island, the use of the aerodrome for civil purposes would be widely welcomed?

Mr. Rees

The intention is that we shall use Thorney Island during the 1970s, probably well into the decade. I remind the hon. Gentleman that civil use is allowed there now. If there is any thought of using it on a regular basis, perhaps we can discuss it with the Board of Trade and the local authorities.
