HC Deb 07 November 1967 vol 753 c820
28. Mr. Marten

asked the Minister of Power what plans he has for removing from the electricity industry capital charges and other burdens which had a bearing on recent price increases.

Mr. Marsh

No write off of capital is contemplated, but on 18th July I told the House of plans to provide that the Exchequer would in future relieve the electricity industry of certain costs incurred in increasing its use of coal.

Mr. Marten

Can the right hon. Gentleman give an assurance that he will ignore the resolution passed at the T.U.C. conference on 8th September to remove these charges from the electricity industry?

Mr. Marsh

No Government would ever ignore a resolution of a T.U.C. conference. I am not completely aware of this particular point at the moment.
