§ 22. Mr. A. Royleasked the Minister of Overseas Development how much financial aid he estimates will be given to Hong Kong during 1967–68; and what financial support, including the defence contribution, is made by the Colony to the United Kingdom Exchequer.
§ Mr. BottomleyIt is expected that aid under all headings will amount to about £500,000 in 1967–68. The second part of the Question is a matter for my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Commonwealth Affairs.
§ Mr. RoyleIs the Secretary of State aware that the economy of Hong Kong is no burden physically on the United Kingdom Exchequer? As Hong Kong is unable to receive aid from international agencies, will the right hon. Gentleman ensure that all the finance that is necessary is made available to the Colony for the airport extension, finance for which cannot be obtained from anywhere else, and which is vital to the future prosperity of the colony?
§ Mr. BottomleyIt is for the Hong Kong Administration to say how it would like developments to take place. Within the limited funds available to my Department we give what help is possible.
