HC Deb 04 May 1967 vol 746 cc710-1
10. Mr. Wall

asked the Minister of Overseas Development what is the total aid which will be given to Gibraltar in the year 1967; and how this money will be spent.

Mr. Bottomley

We expect to disburse about £900,000 during the financial year 1967–68. Of this, about £600,000 has been allocated to housing, school building, tourist development and technical assistance projects; and £100,000 towards additional expenses of administration. The allocation of the balance is still under discussion.

Mr. Wall

Is the Minister satisfied that the proposed aid is approximately the amount that can be absorbed by Gibraltar and that it will maintain, again approximately, the pre-blockade standard of living of Gibraltarians?

Mr. Bottomley

Yes, but if the Gibraltar authorities wanted to come forward with other propositions we would of course give them sympathetic consideration.
