§ 25. Mr. Woodasked the Secretary of State for Commonwealth Affairs what information he has about the reception by Nevis and Anguilla of the constitutional arrangements with regard to local councils in those islands.
§ Mr. George ThomasI understand that the necessary arrangements are proceeding and I am not aware that any difficulties have arisen since the inauguration of Statehood.
§ Mr. WoodWould the hon. Gentleman not agree that considerable opposition to these proposals still exists? What can the British Government still do to allay the very real fears which are entertained?
§ Mr. ThomasMy understanding is that a great deal of the feeling has died down. I believe that we must now give a fair chance to the Statehood which is being inaugurated.
