15. Mr. Dalyell

asked the Minister of Overseas Development what action he is taking to help the Singapore Teachers' Training College.

Mr. Oram

We have agreed to provide, over the next three years, bursaries for the more advanced training in Britain of 47 members of its staff, about 12 experts in various educational disciplines and a wide range of equipment including a language laboratory supplied by the British Council.

Mr. Dalyell

Is my hon. Friend aware that that is an excellent reply and that such activity does far more to create political stability in South-East Asia than the presence of white troops?

Mr. Oram

I am concerned with economic and social aid and I agree with my hon. Friend that this was an excellent reply, like the others.

As the reason given for increasing overseas students' fees was to save money, and as the hon. Gentleman's Answers today show that his Ministry is spending more money, why go through the pain of all this disruption by increasing fees in the first place?

Mr. Oram

The hon. Gentleman is exaggerating the disruption.
