HC Deb 16 March 1967 vol 743 c690
11. Mr. James Davidson

asked the Minister of Overseas Development what he intends doing to assist those 39 Libyan students studying at British universities whose tuition and subsistence grants have been withheld by the Government of Libya.

Mr. Oram

Nothing, Sir. I understand that the Libyan Government have restored the grants, which were only temporarily withheld.

Mr. Davidson

I do not know whether the hon. Gentleman is aware that I have had a letter from a leading member of the group of Libyan students who failed to raise enough money by appeal to continue their studies and who were attempting to get temporary work permits in order to enable them to earn enough money to continue their studies. Perhaps he is also aware that they have also been in touch with a number of his colleagues.

Mr. Speaker

Order. The hon. Gentleman must frame the question.

Mr. Oram

We understand from the Libyan Embassy that the grants referred to in the hon. Gentleman's Question have been restored. If he has other information, I will gladly look at it.
