HC Deb 20 June 1967 vol 748 cc1616-7
Mr. Skeffington

I beg to move, Amendment No. 75, in page 50, line 30, at the end to insert: For purposes of this subsection a tenancy granted to the tenant of the house under a tenancy granted by way of continuation of the former long tenancy, or to the person retaining possession of the house by virtue of any such statutory tenancy as aforesaid, shall be regarded as granted by way of continuation of the former long tenancy. This Amendment ensures that the provision of Clause 34(1) applies to a case in which the original tenancy was followed by two or more contractual or rack rent tenancies or a statutory tenancy which in turn was superseded by a contractual tenancy. We were fairly satisfied that the position was covered by the Clause as drafted, but in view of representations made by my hon. and learned Friend the Member for Dulwich (Mr. S. C. Silkin), we have decided to put it beyond peradventure.

Amendment agreed to.
