§ 39. Mr. Gibson-Wattasked the Secretary of State for Wales what advice he is giving to Welsh local authorities to deal with oil damage to the coastline.
§ The Secretary of State for Wales (Mr. Cledwyn Hughes)I have sent recently to all coastal local authorities a technical memorandum on oil clearance. This gives the latest available advice based on experience gained in Cornwall.
§ Mr. Gibson-WattCan the right hon. Gentleman tell the House whether there is still any oil in the "Torrey Canyon"? 247 If there is any, what special instructions and advice has he given to local authorities in the Principality?
§ Mr. HughesThe hon. Gentleman must put a Question on that down to my right hon. Friend the Minister of Housing and Local Government. I have no authority or executive responsibility for oil in the "Torrey Canyon". Fortunately, no oil from the "Torrey Canyon" has landed on the beaches of Wales. There are small deposits, but not from the "Torrey Canyon", and no official representations have been made from Wales.
