§ 19. Mr. Gowerasked the Secretary of State for Wales what proportion of the United Kingdom current commitments of £340 million on major road improvements is to be spent on roads in Wales.
§ Mr. Ifor DaviesThe £340 million relates only to England. The Welsh roads programme is separate.
§ Mr. GowerCan the right hon. Gentleman indicate how much is to be spent and give a comparative figure to show whether there is to be any increase in "The Plan Ahead" which is deemed by many people to be disappointing in its reference to major roadworks?
§ Mr. DaviesYes. The present Welsh commitments for motorways, trunk and principal roads amount to £14.3 million. This figure will increase, as suggested, as a result of the new scheme the Government have authorised.
