HC Deb 20 July 1967 vol 750 c2457
19. Mr. Gower

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what proportion of the United Kingdom current commitments of £340 million on major road improvements is to be spent on roads in Wales.

Mr. Ifor Davies

The £340 million relates only to England. The Welsh roads programme is separate.

Mr. Gower

Can the right hon. Gentleman indicate how much is to be spent and give a comparative figure to show whether there is to be any increase in "The Plan Ahead" which is deemed by many people to be disappointing in its reference to major roadworks?

Mr. Davies

Yes. The present Welsh commitments for motorways, trunk and principal roads amount to £14.3 million. This figure will increase, as suggested, as a result of the new scheme the Government have authorised.
