asked the Secretary of State for Defence if he is now able to make his promised announcement about the pay of officers in the Army legal services.

Mr. Reynolds

Yes, Sir. Revised pay scales which represent increases in basic pay comparable with those of the Civil Service legal service are being introduced from an operative date of 1st October, 1966. In accordance with the Government's policy for the implementation of pay awards in the public sector, payment of the new scales will be phased, a 5 per cent. increase retrospective to 1st October, 1966 being paid in July, 1967 and the balance in January, 1968.
