HC Deb 05 July 1967 vol 749 cc1821-2
64. Mr. Alfred Morris

asked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will institute an inquiry by a person or persons from outside the Services into the number and ranks of freemasons in the Armed Forces.

Mr. Reynolds

No, Sir.

Mr. Morris

Is my hon. Friend aware that there is some concern about this matter, especially about promotion, and the extent to which freemasonry may affect it? Will he agree to keep the matter under constant review?

Mr. Reynolds

I am not aware that there is any concern in this matter. I have not encountered it during the two-and-a-half years that I have been at the Ministry of Defence, but if my hon. Friend has any other information I shall be grateful if he will send it to me.
