(1) The Postmaster General shall keep a separate account to be called the 'Data Processing Account'.

(2) There shall be credited to the Data Processing Account all amounts (including any advances by the Treasury under section 9 of the Post Office Act 1961) received by the Postmaster General in connection with the provision of services and facilities for the processing of data by computer (hereinafter in this section referred to as 'data processing services').

(3) There shall be debited to the Data Processing Account—

  1. (i) all expenses incurred by the Postmaster General in connection with the provision of data processing services;
  2. (ii) an amount representing so much of the establishment expenses of the Postmaster General as is attributable to the provision of data processing services;
  3. (iii) the amount required to make proper provision for the depreciation or renewal of the assets employed in providing data processing services;
  4. (iv) the amount required to make proper allocation to reserve; and
  5. (v) an amount representing a proper return on the capital employed in providing data processing services.—[Mr. David Price.]
