HC Deb 30 January 1967 vol 740 c4
5. Mr. Tilney

asked the Minister of Public Building and Works what steps he will take to beautify the outside wall of the garden of Buckingham Palace.

Mr. Prentice

I understand the hon. Member has in mind that roses and plants might be put outside the stretch of wall along Grosvenor Place. This is a matter for the Westminster City Council which is giving it sympathetic consideration.

Mr. Tilney

Would the right hon. Gentleman do his best to "chivvy up" the Westminster Council? Would he not agree that it would be very much nicer that the wall should be worthy of the Palace rather than, as now, looking like part of a Victorian prison?

Mr. Prentice

The hon. Gentleman has put the view to the City Council that something might be done here. I understand that the Council is now giving it active consideration.
