§ 9. Mr. Galbraithasked the Minister of Transport whether paragraph 12 or Chapter 12 of the National Plan, Command Paper No. 2764, still represents the Government's policy.
§ Mrs. CastleI would refer the hon. Member to the reply given to the hon. Member for Petersfield (Miss Quennell) on 23rd November, 1966.—[Vol. 736, c. 306.]
§ Mr. GalbraithCan the right hon. Lady say whether she is satisfied with the progress being made and whether she considers that substantial progress is being made in closing down stations? Can she indicate the date when concentration on selected trunk routes may be expected and when manning is to be reduced on trains? These are the three things referred to in the National Plan.
§ Mrs. CastleThey may be referred to in the National Plan but the reply to which I referred pointed out that my Ministry and the Railways Board had set up joint machinery to study the financial implications of new policies for the railways. If the hon. Gentleman asks whether I am satisfied with the progress of this large survey, I assure him that the answer is, "Yes".
