7. Mr. Onslow

asked the Minister of Technology what study he has made of the suitability of a modification of the VC10 aircraft for tanker purposes.

Mr. Stonehouse

A proposal from the British Aircraft Corporation for such a modification is at present being considered by the Department.

Mr. Onslow

Will the hon. Gentleman give an undertaking that it will receive a most speedy consideration in consultation with the Services? Will he understand that if this goes ahead it will have an effect on lengthening the VC10 line?

Mr. Stonehouse

I realise the importance of retaining the VC10 line, but we have to meet the R.A.F. requirements, and that is what we are now considering.
