HC Deb 28 February 1967 vol 742 cc262-3
Q15. Dr. Gray

asked the Prime Minister how soon after the Indian general election he proposes to visit India.

The Prime Minister

I have, as yet, nothing to add to the Answer I gave on 7th February to a Question by my hon. Friend the Member for Southall (Mr. Bidwell).—[Vol. 740, c. 281.]

Dr. Gray

Is my right hon. Friend aware that many months have passed since he first postponed his visit to India and that a personal visit by him would do much to improve British-Indian relations?

The Prime Minister

My visit was postponed from last October because of the earlier date of the sitting of the House on that occasion and it was intimated that it had better be postponed until after the Indian general election because of the possible impact of a visit by a Commonwealth Prime Minister while the election was going on. I remind my hon. Friend that the election has only just ended.
