HC Deb 08 February 1967 vol 740 c1623
3. Dame Joan Vickers

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he will take action to see that animals and birds are not imported by air except under licence.

Mr. Darling

This is an international problem. It is being examined in a study group set up by the International Air Transport Association with a view to their introducing comprehensive regulations.

Dame Joan Vickers

I thank the Minister of State for that Answer. Can he give any idea when action will be taken? A great many of these animals and birds arrive either dead or injured in this country. This has been going on for some years and action should be taken quickly.

Mr. Darling

I understand the hon. Lady's concern and I hope that the study group can come forward quickly with regulations which our airlines and the airlines of other countries can operate.
