HC Deb 20 December 1967 vol 756 c1238
8. Mr. Montgomery

asked the Minister of Transport what plans she has for the provision of a traffic island at Kingswood Junction in Bilbrook, Staffordshire.

The Joint Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Transport (Mr. Neil Carmichael)

None, Sir. Plans to improve this junction cannot be made until the traffic investigation now proceeding within the area has been completed.

Mr. Montgomery

Is the hon. Gentleman aware that this is the same sort of answer that we always get when we ask about road improvements? In view of the Government's statements about what they would do to improve our roads does not he think that the time has come to get a move on?

Mr. Carmichael

It is important to realise that the Government are spending a great deal on roads—more than has been spent previously—but the amount of money involved is such that it would be inappropriate to start making road improvements before being sure that we were making the right type at the right place and at the right time.
