HC Deb 13 December 1967 vol 756 c412
19. Mr. Gregor Mackenzie

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what will be the British contribution to the collaborative project known as Mallard.

Mr. Mason

The British contribution will be to carry out in this country about one-third of this very important and extensive research and development programme.

Mr. Mackenzie

Why are we doing this on a co-operative basis and not developing something of our own?

Mr. Mason

It is a collaborative project between four countries. The cost of the research and development will be about 125 million dollars, of which our share will be about one-third. It will satisfy our own requirements, and there is a good chance of sales of this equipment, too.

Mr. Kershaw

On a point of order, Mr. Speaker. Have we not had enough planted Questions, and cannot we get on with the rest?
