HC Deb 07 December 1967 vol 755 cc1643-4
7. Mr. Gwilym Roberts

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will circularise local education authorities advising them to introduce courses on business studies in schools.

The Minister of State, Department of Education and Science (Miss Alice Bacon)

No, Sir. This is a matter for the local education authorities and the schools.

Mr. Roberts

Does not my right hon. Friend agree that the wider the spread of the teaching of this subject in the upper forms of grammar and comprehensive schools, the broader the basis of British management? Would not industrial projects undertaken by these upper forms help to strengthen the link between education and industry?

Miss Bacon

I am sure that there is something in what my hon. Friend says. He will be interested to know that an experimental course in business studies linked with the A-level examination is being conducted in four schools. The Schools Council will be studying this experiment, but it is too early for a judgment to be made yet.
