HC Deb 06 December 1967 vol 755 c1440
32. Mr. Lawson

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland when it is expected that a start will be made with the building of the Strathclyde General Hospital, Motherwell.

Mr. Millan

I am sorry that a starting date for this scheme cannot yet be given. It was not included for start in the five-year period covered by the review of the Hospital Plan for Scotland, and my right hon. Friend is not yet ready to announce starting dates for additional projects.

Mr. Lawson

Is my hon. Friend aware that this starting date has been bandied about for years? Would he bear in mind that the site itself would take a very considerable amount of preparation and that he might get down to the business of preparing the site even if he is not prepared to begin to erect the building?

Mr. Millan

I do not think that I have any proposals at the moment for giving a date for this particular project. As I have said, it was not included in the five-year period and at present we are not announcing starting dates for any additional projects.
