asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will take steps to extend the Highlands and Islands Fisheries Training Scheme.

On 16th November, my right hon. Friend approved an extension by a further 10 boats of the Highlands and Islands Development Board Fishing Development Scheme, which is specially designed primarily to help new entrants.

Mr. Maclennan

Is my hon. Friend aware that, in contrast with the previous Answer, this is an extremely welcome reply and demonstrates the recognition by the Government of the important place fishing has to play in the development of the Highland economy?
