§ Q4. Mr. Dalyellasked the Prime Minister if he will recommend the appointment of a Royal Commission to report within two years on the relationship between British industries and the universities.
§ The Prime MinisterNo, Sir.
§ Mr. DalyellIn view of industry's legitimate concern about commercial secrecy and the universities' concern about product motivated research, does my right hon. Friend not think that some investigation is called for in the interests of productivity?
§ The Prime MinisterI feel that it is desirable that industry and the universities should work together as closely as possible, and good progress is being made here. My hon. Friend will know of the report of the working party appointed by the Council for Scientific Policy, and that the C.B.I. and the Committee of Vice-Chancellors have appointed a joint committee to give proper direction to the work of bringing the two sides together.
