§ Mr. TaverneI beg to move Amendment No. 11, in page 5, line 9, to leave out from 'proceedings' to 'shall' in line 13 and to insert:
'in a case where publication is permitted by virtue only of section 3(3) of this Act, published as soon as practicable after it is so permitted'.This, again, is a drafting Amendment following an undertaking given in Committee to clear up the wording of the Clause and, in particular, its intention in relation to joint defendants. In effect, the Clause confers a privilege relating to contemporaneous reports of court proceedings to reports that have to be de- 1728 ferred on account of the restrictions in Clause 3. It was the right hon. and learned Member for Huntingdonshire (Sir D. Renton) who was particularly concerned about the wording of the Clause, and I hope that he will feel that this Amendment clears up his doubts.
§ Sir D. RentonI appreciate the care that has been taken to consider these improvements. I am sure that Clause 4, which was a very long, interminable one-sentence Clause, is not only shorter, but clearer and better, and I am grateful.
§ Amendment agreed to.
