HC Deb 21 April 1967 vol 745 c947
Mr. Frank Allaun

With your permission, Mr. Speaker, and that of the House, I wish to present a Petition, signed by 5,251 citizens of Lancashire and Cheshire. It includes the signatures of many leading members of the community, for example, those of every north-west official of the building trade unions and of the Manchester District Committee of the engineering and shipbuilding unions and also those of 26 Salford county councillors and aldermen.

The Petition points out that U Thant has called upon the United States Government to stop the bombing of North Vietnam, as its continuance is acting as the main obstacle to securing peace. Finally, the Petitioners ask that In order to further initiatives which are being taken to obtain peace in Vietnam, the House of Commons should urge the British Government to express support of the proposals of U Thant The Petition concludes in the customary way, with the words And your Petitioner, as in duty bound, will ever pray.

To lie upon the Table.
