§ 15. Mr. Ronald Bellasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether he will make a further statement about the future of the Polish Library: and whether he will seek to give effect to the desire of the Polish community to have this library situated in or near London.
§ Mr. Goronwy RobertsI cannot yet add to the Answer given to the hon. Member for Wells (Lieut. Cmdr. Maydon) on 23rd March. I fully appreciate the desire of the Polish Community that the Polish library should remain in London.—[Vol. 743, c. 301.]
§ Mr. BellWhile appreciating that the Minister may not have any further specific information, may I ask him at least to indicate whether progress is being mxade, even if results have not yet been achieved?
§ Mr. RobertsI think that I can say that excellent progress is being made and I am confident that my right hon. Friend 787 will be making a statement satisfactory to all concerned fairly soon now.
§ Mr. BrewisCan the hon. Gentleman say if the Government have withdrawn the claim to books forming part of this library, which should never have been made?
§ Mr. RobertsThis is rather an arguable point, which may well be overtaken by the progress of the negotiations between the party now concerned in a final solution. As I said in reply to an earlier supplementary question, I hope that fairly soon now there will be opportunity for a very satisfactory statement.
