§ 31. Mr. van Straubenzeeasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will make a statement about the setting up of the National Council for Educational Technology which he announced to the National Union of Teachers on 2nd April, 1967.
§ Mr. CroslandThe Council will provide a focal point for the supply of information and guidance to everybody concerned with educational technology at 797 all levels of education, in industrial training and in the Services. I am circulating the proposed terms of reference in the OFFICIAL REPORT.
§ Mr. van StraubenzeeWill the Minister say why he did not feel able to tell the House about these proposals a matter of days before, in the Plowden debate?
§ Mr. CroslandI hope that the hon. Gentleman does not think that any discourtesy was intended. Certainly it was not. It is always a matter of judgment to decide what subjects justify a statement in the House. To be realistic, no Questions had been asked on this subject for the previous twelve months, and I thought that it did not justify a statement in the House.
