HC Deb 13 April 1967 vol 744 cc1357-8
26. Dr. David Kerr

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what bodies he proposes to consult on the recommendations contained in the Plowden Report on religious teaching in primary schools.

Mrs. Shirley Williams

My right hon. Friend has not asked specifically for comments on these particular recommendations but he is of course ready to receive and consider any which those concerned may like to send to him.

Dr. Kerr

Could my hon. Friend advise the House whether any consideration is being given to the excellent minority Report on this subject contained in the Plowden Report? Would it not be possible to consult not only the usual authorities on these matters, but authorities such as the Humanist Association which represent a different point of view?

Mrs. Williams

My right hon. Friend is always willing to take into consideration any body which cares to write to him on any matter in the Plowden Report. He has officially asked both the local education authority associations and the professional teachers' organisations to comment on the Report, and it is open to them to comment on the minority or the majority Report and any recommendations.
