HC Deb 19 October 1966 vol 734 cc194-5
16. Mr. Winnick

asked the Postmaster General how many World Cup stamps were issued for public sale.

Mr. Joseph Slater

146 million four-penny, 8¼ million sixpenny, 8½ million at one-and-threepence, and 12½ million four-penny printed "England Winners".

Mr. Winnick

Is my hon. Friend aware that there is keen disappointment among many people that not more were printed? Could he explain why only this number was printed, and could he say whether there will be any possibility of a reprint?

Mr. Slater

The answer to the latter part of my hon. Friend's supplementary question is, No. As to the first part, why only 12½ million victory stamps were printed, it was to avoid holding up the remainder of this year's special stamp issues.
