HC Deb 19 October 1966 vol 734 cc199-200
17. Mr. Holland

asked the Postmaster-General what information he has received from the British Broadcasting Corporation about the programme inciting Africans to violence against white Rhodesians heard in Malawi on 11th August, 1966, and purporting to be broadcast from Bechuanaland, details of which were sent to him by the honourable Member for Carlton (Mr. Holland) on 30th August, 1966.

Mr. Short

I understand that the hon. Gentleman has received a reply from the B.B.C. refuting this allegation, and also offering to allow him to look through their complete set of scripts.

Mr. Holland

Yes, but would the Postmaster-General not agree that his public statement now that this broadcast did not emanate from a B.B.C. transmitter will help to allay some of the anxieties of people in this country with relatives and friends in Rhodesia?
