HC Deb 30 November 1966 vol 737 c453
43. Mr. Hector Hughes

asked the Attorney-General if he will state the plans and future programme of work, apart from that indicated in Command Paper No. 3123, of the Law Commission.

The Solicitor-General (Sir Dingle Foot)

I do not think I can do better than refer my hon. and learned Friend to the Law Commission's First Annual Report, which was laid before Parliament last July.

Mr. Hughes

Does not my hon. and learned Friend realise that, in addition to the programme of work outlined in the document to which he referred and in the White Paper to which I refer in my Question, there is a vast sphere of remediable legislation which needs attention relevant to this scientific age?

The Solicitor-General

I entirely agree with my hon. and learned Friend, but I remind him that the Law Commission has already embarked, in pursuance of its statutory responsibility, on a very far-reaching examination of many branches of our statute law. It must be some little time before it can go further.
