HC Deb 14 November 1966 vol 736 c15
23. Mr. Murton

asked the Minister of Land and Natural Resources whether he will now reconsider his decision to defer until the next Session of Parliament the proposed legislation to amend the National Parks and Access to the Countryside Act, 1949.

Mr. Willey

No, Sir. While the Government are anxious to introduce legislation on the lines indicated in the White Paper on Leisure in the Countryside as soon as possible, a Bill could not be introduced this Session without sacrificing other important Measures.

Mr. Murton

Is not the House entitled to believe that this is just one more case of the Government failing the country by not putting into effect their promised legislation?

Mr. Willey

I assure the hon. Member that we have every intention of introducing this legislation as soon as possible.

Mr. Blenkinsop

Could my right hon. Friend at least assure us that a great deal of preparatory work is being done to enable legislation to get ahead as fast as possible?

Mr. Willey

I can certainly assure my hon. Friend that that is the case.
