HC Deb 03 November 1966 vol 735 cc649-50
Q1. Mr. William Hamilton

asked the Prime Minister if he will make a statement on the progress made with the leaders of Her Majesty's Opposition on discussions concerning the establishment of specialist committees of the House.

The Prime Minister (Mr. Harold Wilson)

I would ask my hon. Friend to await the statement I foreshadowed in answering a similar Question by my hon. Friend the Member for Woolwich, West (Mr. Hamling) last Tuesday.

Mr. Hamilton

Meanwhile, would my right hon. Friend say whether the Government expect that this Committee will be in operation, fully staffed and equipped with technical assistance before the end of this Session?

The Prime Minister

I think that my hon. Friend had better await the statement which I have promised for this month. I hope that the House will be able to proceed very speedily after the statement has been made.
