§ 44. Mr. Emrys Hughesasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what he estimates to have been the increase in farmers' rents in England and Wales during the last year.
§ Mr. John MackieFrom October, 1964 to October, 1965, an average of 7¼ per cent. or about 5s. an acre.
§ Mr. HughesIs my hon. Friend aware that the word "rent" has just become to many farmers the most objectionable four-letter word in the language? Does not he think it time that the Prices and Incomes Board thoroughly investigated the whole question of exploitation of farmers by landlords?
§ Mr. MackieAs a farmer of long standing, I would not agree that the word "rent" has just become so objectionable. I have previously replied "No" to my hon. Friend's suggestion of a reference to the Prices and Incomes Board.
