HC Deb 16 May 1966 vol 728 cc890-1
4. Mr. Gurden

asked the Minister of Labour if he will introduce legislation to empower himself to secure the attendance of witnesses at courts of inquiry set up under the Industrial Courts Act, 1919.

Mr. Gunter

Section 4 of the Industrial Courts Act already provides for this.

Mr. Gurden

Can the Minister tell us why, in the Jack Scamp Report of the Solihull inquiry, Mr. Alan Law was not reported for his deliberate absence at the inquiry? Does the Minister not realise that Mr. Law is the real nigger in the woodpile of the troubles in the Midlands?

Mr. Gunter

I am not responsible for the Report published by Mr. Scamp, but the incident to which the hon. Member refers was reported to me by Mr. Scamp and consultations and discussions have taken place with the Acting General Secretary of the Transport and General Workers' Union.
