HC Deb 10 May 1966 vol 728 c220
Sir K. Joseph

(by Private Notice) asked the Minister of Labour whether he will make a statement on the situation regarding the proposed shipping strike.

The Minister of Labour (Mr. Ray Gunter)

I have seen representatives of the Shipping Federation this afternoon and I shall be seeing the Executive of the National Union of Seamen tomorrow. In this situation I would prefer to say nothing more.

Sir K. Joseph

But will the right hon. Gentleman tell the House whether, should the strike occur, the Government have taken all practicable contingency action to safeguard essential supplies?

Mr. Gunter

My task at the moment is to try to find a solution to the problem.
