HC Deb 10 May 1966 vol 728 c198
18. Mr. Wolrige-Gordon

asked the Minister of Technology what has been the response to his campaigns to instil more technology into Scottish manufacturing industry.

Mr. Shore

While it is too early yet to attempt an appraisal of the response of Scottish industry to this Ministry's efforts, there have been encouraging signs but these will take time to show results. My right hon. Friend would wish me to pay tribute to the help his Ministry is receiving from the Scottish Council (Development and Industry).

Mr. Wolrige-Gordon

In view of the rather uncertain nature of that reply, may I ask the hon. Gentleman to tell us what the exact nature of his campaign has been?

Mr. Shore

The services which my Ministry operates in Scotland are the regional services, the regional office in this case being based on Edinburgh, and industrial liaison centres geared to the Scottish universities and colleges. In addition, there is the work done by the research stations, in particular the National Engineering Laboratory.
