HC Deb 10 May 1966 vol 728 cc191-2
8. Mr. G. Campbell

asked the Minister of Technology how much has been spent so far on the plasticity and lubrication laboratory of the National Engineering Laboratory, East Kilbriade; and when this work will be completed.

Mr. Shore

The total expenditure up to the present on this laboratory is £825,000 on both buildings and equip- ment. The building was completed in April, 1966, and equipment is still being installed. The laboratory is designed to work on numerical control of machine tools and fluid power as well as plasticity and lubrication.

Mr. Campbell

Will the Government give priority to further establishments of this kind in Scotland, because of their importance to industrial development there?

Mr. Shore

We shall certainly take into account—and my right hon. Friends who are mainly concerned with regional policy will most certainly bring it to our attention should we fail to do so—the desirability of siting, wherever possible, such stations in Scotland and other development areas.
