§ Q8. Mr. Driberg
asked the Prime Minister on what dates he received from the President of the United States of America requests that British troops should be committed for service in Vietnam; what replies he returned to these requests; and if he will give an assurance that no British troops, or military advisers or technicians of any kind, will be so committed.
§ The Prime Minister
The matter has come up on various occasions in the last 1911 eighteen months but President Johnson understands our special rôle as Co-Chairman of the Geneva Conference and that we cannot put troops or military advisers into Vietnam.
