HC Deb 08 March 1966 vol 725 cc1910-1
Q8. Mr. Driberg

asked the Prime Minister on what dates he received from the President of the United States of America requests that British troops should be committed for service in Vietnam; what replies he returned to these requests; and if he will give an assurance that no British troops, or military advisers or technicians of any kind, will be so committed.

The Prime Minister

The matter has come up on various occasions in the last eighteen months but President Johnson understands our special rôle as Co-Chairman of the Geneva Conference and that we cannot put troops or military advisers into Vietnam.
