§ 49. Mr. Currieasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will now grant some remission in the tax on fuel used by light aircraft belonging to civil flying clubs which devote time and pro vide aircraft for the training of new pilots.
§ Mr. DiamondNo, Sir. These clubs receive assistance from the Government in other ways.
§ Mr. CurrieDoes the right hon. Gentleman not agree that for many years ahead airlines will require pilots, and does he not consider that flying clubs provide a most useful service in the training of young pilots? Will he ask his right hon. Friend to have another look at this matter?
§ Mr. DiamondI do not think the hon. Member fully heard my Answer, when I said that these clubs receive assistance from the Government in other ways. There are very many ways, which were described by the then Minister of Aviation in his speech of 4th August, 1965, to which I would refer the hon. Member.
