HC Deb 08 March 1966 vol 725 c1890
24. Mr. Grimond

asked the Minister of Power what is the price of diesel fuel now; and what it was in 1955.

The Minister of Power (Mr. Frederick Lee)

As the Answer contains a number of figures, I will, with permission, circulate it in the OFFICIAL REPORT.

Mr. Grimond

Can the Minister say quite briefly what is the order of the increase in price?

Mr. Lee

The right hon. Gentleman knows that I am not responsible for prices in the oil industry. But most of the main urban areas in the United Kingdom are classified as inner zones and they have scheduled prices lower than the outer zones. If the right hon. Gentleman is concerned about his constituency, which is one of the outer zones, the prices there are 1¾d. a gallon above inner zone prices.

Following is the information:

second nuclear power programme with a view to making an increase in the target of 8,400 megawatts in these years?

Mr. Lee

As the hon. Gentleman knows, Britain has the largest nuclear power programme of any country in the world. As we said in the White Paper, the figure we gave is subject to review in the light of any new information which we get as we go along.
