HC Deb 03 March 1966 vol 725 cc1457-8
5. Mr. Charles Morrison

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether he is satisfied by the progress being made in the establishment of the business schools at the Universities of London and Manchester; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Prentice

Both schools are now open for students and their budgets have been settled. I hear most encouraging reports of their plans, but it is not for me to comment on the academic aspects. This progress in making the necessary arrangements reflects credit on all concerned.

Mr. Morrison

Can the hon. Gentleman say whether staff recruitment and student recruitment have been satisfactory?

Mr. Prentice

I believe staff recruitment has been satisfactory. If the hon. Member wants details, perhaps he will put down a Question to my hon. Friend or to myself after the election. As to student recruitment, this was started in a small way at both centres. There are post-experience courses at both universities, and a post-graduate short course at Manchester. There are considerable plans for the next academic year.
